Oracle of Visions (card 10) by Ciro Marchetti
This flash fiction was inspired by the above oracle card. Oracle of Visions is currently my favourite deck to work from creatively (actually I only use this glorious deck for creative purposes) and one of these days I’ll have a short story or poem for each card. The images are diverse rather than fluff images often seen in oracle decks – not that there is anything wrong with that, just from a creative point-of-view I need drama and shadows. I will settle for something I can mock.
The Book Worm
She had spent her life in books. Her soul was a book. Her brain was in print. A regular know-it-all. Members of the parliament and common folk alike quizzed her on her knowledge. Her skill with trivia far out weighed any man’s. Octavia’s inner eye had seen it all, from blistering adventures to heated romances. To the outside world she was a weird freak, in her mind she was anything she wanted to be. Lost in her own world, she didn’t mind watching her sisters marry and have families of their own, after all their husbands were no Fabio. One sister complained of a small penis and another back hair. Octavia offered advice; penis pumps and a jar of wax. Imagine her shock when she gave them as gifts one Christmas, only to be given a blasting. They were thoughtful gifts; a larger member and smooth skin. In tears she left, leaving behind one last gift, the gift of time – Viagra. That didn’t go down well either as anger shook the walls, apparently she had gone too far. Octavia’s only crime was she had just finished Fifty Shades of Grey; how unfair, it was on her sisters’ “to do” list.
