“You have to be kidding me!”
The fates needed an upgrade but this bordered insanity. A few threads at a time allowed them the opportunity to monitor the mortal souls. Now they were to dish destiny on an industrial scale? “Population explosion” the given excuse.
She rolled her eyes. Nothing a little war or two wouldn’t fix. The plague? STDs and other nasty diseases? Builds character. No wonder the union organised a strike, fate worked over time. The webs between souls more complicated. The machines of life rumbled as they processed thread.
“What happens if there is a jam?”
“ Cut the threads amass.”
Set in the same story world as an earlier Flash Fiction: Thread!
Clever reinterpretation of the Fates

Wow, cutting the threads in the event of a jam sounds drastic for we poor mortals! Death? Builds character…hmm!
Well imagined, Tannille

I think she has been doing her job for too long lol. According to Greek Mythology cutting the thread means death…

I did think about the muses, but couldn’t get a good handle on it. You did, though. Perfect.
“Cut the threads amass.” Chilling thought.

Ingenious take on the image. Survival of the fittest would certainly build character.

Neat story. As scary as a fate jam might be, it would make an interesting story to see how that would play out for people. 🙂
