Flash Fiction: Perception

Oh wow is it just me or is my eyesight going?

The words blur together and dance off the page. Now there is something one doesn’t see every day. The letters merge and roll on my fingertips as if they are having sex. Baby words emerge.

Tap, tap, tap on the white page, digits acted as stamps, leaving an imprint. These new glasses… The optimist said the prescription needed to be stronger. Does this happen to everyone?

My doctor increased my meds too, an age thing. Keeps me sane. So the story goes. Wash with Scotch.

“Oh no dear, that’s not a cig.”

Answer provided.

Note: ‘Optimist’ was intended to be ‘optometrists’ but given the subject matter, I found the typo amusing when pointed out! 😀

    1. Haha my mum pointed it out. I read over it multiple times too. I think it says we enjoy stories more than physical words (what I tell myself, spelling has always been a weak point). 😀

      Thanks R!

  1. Tannille, I’m not having what he’s having and I’m certainly not washing it down with Scotch. Time to exit stage left quickly in case it’s contagious! Better safe than being an optimist!
    Well done.
    Best wishes,

  2. I love trippy pieces like this, I don’t know what it is, I just really do. Baby words being created, the tap, tap, tap. The Optimist/Optometrist mix up is the icing on the cake. I love it all. :’)

The Muse likes her ego stroked, leave a comment and she'll do the same... unless there is a glitch... or human error...
