It started as a stupid dare. The Midnight Club broke into the abandoned mall.
With phone lights to guide them, they wandered various shops, recording their steps. Dolls stared at the teens as they passed.
“I don’t like it here. It’s like they are undressing me with their eyes.”
“Perverts!”
Kate and Ben walked around the discarded aeroplane display and completed a 360. Through her screen, Kate viewed the shop window. Her heart pounded. She tugged at Ben’s sleeve.
“What?”
“Look, the perverts have moved.”
The mannequins. So real. So alive. So menacing.
“Run!”
The sound of doors bolting shut echoed.

Familiar but different. I like it. I also like the inventive use of the poll at the end!

Never tried a poll before. Now I found a use. 😀

I like the building horror, the sense of guilt playing tricks on them.
I mean, who has heard of perverted, man-eating Mannequins.

I would have loved more words for this one. Man-eating perverts!

It’s a prank, at least, I think it is – then again I have encountered a dodgy womanquin or two.

Can you hear the Twilight Zone theme playing in the background? We’ll never know, but if they survived, I’m betting these kids will not repeat the break-in any time soon.

Actually I heard the Dr Who theme, but I think TTZ might be more fitting. I forgot about TTZ. What a great episode. If the kids survive, I believe you’re right.
Thanks, L.

A creepy set-up, and that last line really drops the dread on us readers. Here’s hoping Kate and Ben can fight their way out — or call 911, and that the police actually believe them about attacking mannequins!

I wonder what the police would make of the footage…

Great story, Tannille. I can get a bit intrigued by mannequins and did photograph a pile of mannequin parts which were in a shopping trolley to be reassembled. Rather freaky. Murderous mannequins are very plausible along with their teenage prey.

Mannequins are creepy and intriguing at the same time. That sounds like a great photo!

I think 3 would create a lot of drama. Thriller almost. Opens up a lot of questions – who? why?
Thanks, A. 😀

They are Autons! First episode (Rose) of the new Doctor Who from 2005, the 9th doctor. (I’ve binge-watched them recently for the first time and now am hooked.)

Ooo that era was great. I stopped watching when the Dr became a woman. The storylines started to bore me which is a shame. I did hear they are bringing my favorite dr back, I’ll jump back on the Tardis for that 😀.
Thanks, G.

I didn’t watch the last two or so seasons either but I did like the female Doctor. I didn’t like Yaz all that much though. My fav thought was #9, and he won’t come back from all I’ve read. But I like them all.

Rochelle beat me to it. That episode of The Twilight Zone was my first thought, too. Creepy. It kind of serves them right for breaking into the mall when it’s the mannequins’ time to play. I like the poll idea, too, though I got a server error every time I tried to vote.

Ugh, modern technology. It was a fun way to wrap the story up.

I really like this! There are Dr Who’s weeping angel overtones, and having a poll to decide the ending…that’s pure genius 💯 😉 well done, T.

Those weeping angels are so creepy! How did you do the poll? I’ve never seen it when I do my story for the prompt. I’ll have to get more savvy!

Polls are an option when you choose what sort of “box” you want in the editor. After you hit the plus sign there is a variety of choice (the standard being, paragraphs and images). I think I typed in the search bar for poll. There’s all sorts of things that can be inserted.

Okay, cool! I’ll see if my non technical skills can manage that. Thank you, T. 🙂

Great use of the prompt. I love the choose your own ending poll. I chose Dr Who because if iirc mannequins come to life in the reboot with the 9th Dr and Rose. Or the mannequins are actually aliens or something. Loved this story.

So many options! I sway towards the mannequins being alive. They are creepy at the best of times. 😱

They are creepy! I went to catholic school when I was a kid and those statues of saints are very creepy! Their eyes follow you! The one by the water fountain was always watching me!

Now that is creepy! As they say, God is always watching. You could write a story about it. 😀
