I caged my heart for you.
Cinderella frowned. They called her a gold digger. She came from trash, as white as trash can be. Plucked from serving at McDonald’s, her dreams came true when a wealthy tycoon married her. She served him as a trophy wife. In truth, she received more thanks for working at Mcdonald’s.
Years went by. He proceeded to divorce her for a new hot thing he knocked up. Discarding her like trash. Trash is as trash does.
Cinderella called in a favour from old friends.
“I want him gone, without a trace.”
Sharks smiled.
Cinderella inherited the lot and became the worse kind of trash — filthy rich. And she had her Godfather to thank.

Note:
This week’s flash fiction is a modern retelling of the classic fairy tale “Cinderella“. Other fairy tale retellings can be found here.
Filthy rich says so much, over wealthy and mean. I think I prefer the white trash girl rather than the happy ever after rich one she has become, after all she can pull strings with the Godfather. I would be walking on eggs shells.

I think so too. The real catch is Cinderella felt like her roots were trash. She was a decent human being. Money corrupted her.

Ooh, she certainly has a vengeful, yet clever streak! Very nicely done, Tannille.

A different kind of fairy tale, but probably more suited to our times. 🙂

From the classic to the 90s “Pretty Woman” hooker with a heart of gold to 2020s vengeful trophy wife…

Well done, Tannille. I’ll have to give some thought to these fairy stories. There’s good fodder in there.
Best wishes,

PS I’ve been happy with writing up my holiday travels and getting back into my blogging more seriously and I’ll definitely need to focus on a relaxing ferry ride after Friday Fictioneers this week.

Fairy tales are begging to be bastardised. I love them. 😀
The ferry ride is lovely. Cheap tourist like travel. I’m upset they tore down the monorail. Loved the monorail. Did you decide to keep blog 2?
Thanks, R.

My daughter was mentioning the monorail the other day and misses it. Such a shame they took it down.
Blog 2 is still alive but I’ll have to sort it out soon and move it to a free site and rewrite the posts.
How are you going with your blogs?
Best wishes,
Ro

I remember thinking Sydney was soo modern in 2002 because of the monorail. lol.
Keeping up with the weekly flash fiction — yay! Blog 2 takes a hit. But that’s ok. I decided to post only when I have something to share (once or twice a month). Never enough hours. You should be able to find a 50% off code (turn off auto-renew). But nothing is as cheap as free. 😀

Thanks for that. i’ll remember that for next time.

Powerful symbolism, and a warning to boot, what you do can come home to haunt

Exactly. Cinderella wasn’t trash like the believed in the beginning but her husband transformed her into trash and it didn’t end well for him.

I always knew a godfather was better than a godmother. Nice reimagining, T.

It’s a shame… Money doesn’t make people classy. Character does.

No it doesn’t. Matter of fact, it only helps to enhance the basic nature of the person…
