The muse came home after a hard day at work. Her jaw dropped. Burgled! All the colours were stolen from her home. Her world… grayscale!
Damn, shadow men. Kill joys! So much for signed treaties.
Melody took out her wand and began restoring her home. A vibrant, saturated palate returned.
A shriek came from the cottage next door. Melody dashed out. Muses congregated on the street. All their homes were hit by shadow thugs.
Inspiration of a different kind hit Melody. “Let’s colour the Shadowlands bit by bit. Make the bastards play in rainbows and music.”
A cheer roared: an army of muses born.

Story Background
The muse, Melody, returns. Her debut was in Sleeping Dreams (read here). A muse world has been brewing in my brain for years and slowly taking shape. The Shadowlands is a drub grayscale place, home to depression and boogiemen-type beings.

Haven’t they forgotten to check Pandora’s box first?

An intriguing premise. A world without colour would be bland indeed.

My wife read a story like this to your 3-year-old granddaughter. A dragon had lost all its color and a girl needed to help him get the colors back before they attended a party that evening.

Thanks, L. This one was a lot of fun.

This is my favorite muse story yet. A war between the colorfuul (Where do you put that extra U?) world and grayscale, draining and painting, is a great idea.

It’s interesting how bits of this world keep unfolding over time. Now, I question what a war would look like. Because I need another story world. 😀

Rainbows and music sound like good, proper revenge for turning their homes into grayscale. Go muses!

If only all revenge could be that colourful.

What a great take! I couldn’t get rid of all the bright lights reflected on the ceiling and roof supports, so I turned it black and white. Now the muses might come to my house for revenge.

I think the black-and-white gives the imagine an old era quality. Makes me think of the 50s/60s. Haha revenge of the muses.
Thanks, A.

I love this. Love brilliant color in my life, my home, my clothes and everything else. I’d join that army!

I’m fond of colour. Not a pastel type girl. Probably the only good army to join — the more, the merrier.

Yep, I have gone for a metaphor here on how depression sucks the colour out of our lives. Send in the muse to add brightness to our lives.

Yep. They are usually a bright bunch. I’m not sure where the dark stories come from. Maybe they get depressed too.

Great take, Tannille. Very thoughtful. I have been struck recently by the uplighting chatter of Rainbow Lorrikeets. They are very common here and so often I’m out and hear them chattering and it’s just wonderful. I have a friend who had such severe depression, that he couldn’t taste.
Best wishes,
Rowena

They are lovely birds! I have an active, err, randy pet galah. Mating season is grand. Birds are cheerful creatures.
Thanks, R.

How exciting you have a pet galah. My uncle and a friend have had one. They’re gorgeous! Our dogs prevent us from pet birds and not to mention furry critters.

He is quite the character. Loves a belly scratch. Dogs can be a handful. Some dogs can handle cats.

Belly scratching a galah sounds adorable. Our dogs can be quite a handful along with the “kids”. Of course, I’m no trouble whatsoever!
