Jumping through the portal seemed like a fantastic idea at the time, it sure beat flying from one end of the globe to the other for a cultural exchange. Alice shivered as she arrived at her destination, her cotton sun dress offered as much warmth as nudity. The chill attacked her core; it took her breath away. She dove for the covers on the bed. Arms wrapped around her.
“I told you to dress.”
Snow danced outside, a contrast to the sunny beach she sat on an hour ago.
“Just a quick visit, it’s not Christmas if I’m not sweating like a pig. Come back with me.”
‘sweating like a pig’…
Gotta love a girl with such romance in her soul!

A bit of realism. Every other Christmas is compromised with a heat wave.

As much as I prefer warm sunshine to the cold, I can’t imagine Christmas except with snow and dark nights drawing in.

Can this really happen? Great idea for explorers like me 🙂
Will carry a bag along too for such travels!

Dear Tanille,
Christmas on the beach sounds much more inviting, depending, of course who the warm arms belong to. 😉

Believe it or not, sometimes Christmas is too hot on the each here. You have a point about the warm arms.

People roasting under the sun, sweating like pigs. Do pigs sweat? Seems to me they don’t, which is why they enjoy puddles so much :). Anyway, just goes to show the difference in people. I dream of a white Christmas while someone else dreams of a sweaty one!

I have no idea where the expression “sweating like a pig” comes from 😀. You have a good point. It’s always seemed odd to me that it’s Summer here but nearly all our Christmas imagines are of snow. But we make Christmas our own.

Romancing the sun? It doesn’t seem so here. Good imagination here.

As the weather turns colder, I’d rather be somewhere “sweating like a pig”! 😂 Beautifully told story, Tannille.

It just isn’t Christmas if it’s summer. I had a white Christmas once, it felt odd but what a great experience. 😀

Christmas in Perth or Cooloola Cove, Christmas in summer! On a beach, warm. I like that idea

Either place would have the charm. 😀. Odds are there might be a heatwave.

I don’t know. There’s something magical about a white Christmas. Living most of my life on the coast, it wasn’t until a few years ago that I actually experienced one. Though, looking out the window at the fading snow and the mud left behind, a nice beach sounds appealing right now. That portal would be convenient. One could play in the snow until it got too cold, then go sit on the beach.

Yeah imagine the shock to the system though; hot, cold, hot, cold. White Christmas is special, but collectively people are miserable during winter. The vibe for a summer Christmas is entirely different.

That’s why we have so many winter holidays. They brighten up those dark, cold days. Holidays in summer are just excessive. ☃⛄🌨🎄🎅🤶❄❄🚽

Fine, no portal for you. 😀. I’ll go play in the sun during my holidays, how terrible for me…

Now, I want the portal just to throw snowballs at you while you frolic in the sun.

That’s fine, I’ll invest in high power water gun and we’ll see who has the last laugh… 😎

Would you prefer gumnuts to water? 😀

Yes, please. I love eucalyptus. Eucalyptus trees were everywhere where I lived in the Bay Area as a kid. Then, when we moved north, we had some in our backyard. They smell delicious.

I thought they were only native downunder… No koalas though. I win lol…
Then you know gumnuts are bloody hard and great for giving black eyes? 😀

I had to look up drop bears. I watched a video. They were holding a koala with a wallaby hopping around the yard. That’s it. I am moving to Australia.

it only takes a plane ride to a place like australia to enjoy christmas in the summertime. but with all the travel restrictions as a result of the pandemic, it’s perhaps best to have a magic portal to take one there. 🙂

I have seen that so often, people come back to the UK, still dressed in their sunny holiday clothes. Did they forget how cold it can be in Glasgow?

Haha. I can see that. The Poms (the English as we affectionately call them) visit during winter – they stand out in shorts and sandals.
