Writer Update:
Still Alive! This time of year The Muse takes a holiday. I can only describe September/October as my equivalent of New Year. Lots of journaling and reflection. Anyway, The Muse in her timely fashion spat this gem out. A bit different from us.

Life is an elevator.
People step on and step off.
Some travel with you for multiple floors.
Sometimes you jump off to explore floors, alone or with another, leaving others to ride the elevator. All detours lead back to the elevator.
Returning to the elevator, you are greeted with new and old faces traveling in the same direction.
Some love ones reach the top floor before you do; some travel express and others cruise through the stops. Either way, your turn will come and the penthouse is Hotel California.
The door opens. Dilemma, to move on or to stay the route? Goodbyes are never easy.

Sometimes my elevator goes sideways. Which is unexpected. And alarming. But often fun

That’s very true. And there are actual elevators that go sideways, New York airport springs to mind. Weird.

How right you are! Not everything in life is our choice.

The story came to me in fragments. I wasn’t sure I could do anything with it.

Thanks D. And as it’s been pointed out, elevators have shafts — I could have been nasty with that little detail. 😀

And just like in real life. Shafts show up outta nowhere and pull the rug from under your feet ..

A useful metaphor. I would like my elevator to slow down a little!

I swear it goes faster the closer to the top we travel.

Dear Tanille,
You can check out anytime but you can never leave. 😉 Great metaphor for life and beyond. Good to see you back in the FFFold.

Not sure where the idea sprung from, I think the idea of people travelling in different directions in twin elevators, and the metaphor grew.

T.,
I love the poetic conceit of the elevator, the entries and departures, some decisive, others not so much. Great take. And Happy New Year! :>)

Too often life’s elevator has unplanned stops on floors we don’t want to be on. That was a good metaphor, T.
