Flash Fiction: American Graffiti 2.0

The children skipped along the old street stained with graffiti. They mulled around an authentic decades-old bench table and parked their butts on stools while they waited for the rest of the class to catch up. The educational excursion sure beat sitting in a classroom. History a yawn. Chitchat filled the air.

“My grandparents drove a car like that.”

“So primitive.”

“Can you believe people lived like this?”

The street with the 21st-century artwork flicked in and out. The hologram short-circuited. A glitch in the system. Disney still faced quality control issues despite technological advances.

  1. It’s the first step into the Matrix, I’m telling you! Great story Tannille and a very realistic glmpse into the future. Mind you, I would have liked history lessons like this. Maybe I’d have learned something.
