Eris (Discordia) is the Greek Goddess of strife. Stories featuring Eris (and other gods) can be found here.

Light, camera, action. The presenters began reading the prime time news from the teleprompters. The Truth Fairy fidgeted from behind the scenes. Her ears burned with fragmented truths.
Bull dust!
The footage twisted into something new. Creative facts to divide and distrust. Who drove the wedge?
Eris materialised, a smirk glued to her face.
“You!”
“What? I’m just being creative. I can’t help it if they are inspired by me.”
The Truth Fairy smiled. Two can play this game. She twitched her nose, casting her own spell on the crew. The uncensored truth flew out of their mouths. The pair gasped.
“You want the truth, you got it.”
Eris clicked her fingers.
“Breaking news; Kim Kardashian files for divorce -”
The Truth Fairy clenched her fists, “That’s not news.”
“Exactly.”
It counts as news to some people unfortunately. Still, I’d settle for a little more truth.

I find it hard to take the mainstream media seriously these days.

They can be trying. On the other hand, I wouldn’t rely on social media and groups with agendas for all me news. It’s a fine balance.

For some I guess that’s all the news they need. In the real world, we need a Truth Fairy who’s concerned with higher truths. You’re late, by the way. 🙂

Haha like the white rabbit! Let’s just say I struggled with tone this week. I kept wanting to write about events that divide.
Thanks S!

Dear Tannille,
Love the Truth Fairy. Too bad she couldn’t win over evil Eris.

‘Bull dust’ made me grin.
Propaganda and outright lies is what we get from our ‘news’ media.

That’s my feeling. They don’t even try to hide it any more.

Truth Fairies must be finding it hard to be heard these days. Guesswork, speculation and exaggeration prevail!

Every time a lie is told a truth fairy dies… It would explain why they seem to be missing in action.

it reminds me of what giuliani said that truth isn’t truth. it’s always what you’re made to believe. 🙂

I love the idea of The Truth Fairy. I hate not knowing what to believe. I have to preface everything with “I read…” “I saw…” because I don’t know if it’s true.

I’ve reached a point where I give up. The real answer is follow the money trail and use common sense or human psychology. A truth fairy would be nice.

Wait, one of the Kardashians filed for a divorce? That all-important factoid drove all other factoids from my brain. Kidding. 🙂 Great story!

Love your twist in this story. Are you familiar with the works of W S Gilbert (of Gilbert and Sullivan fame)? The twist in your story reminded me of his work.
