Flash Fiction: Silver Lining

The sun broke through the grey clouds, creating an opening between heaven and earth. The valkyrie speed on her pegasus. She was notoriously late… again. Her mission — to collect her target. Ugh. A church. Why didn’t she leave earlier? Something about Thor and his hammer. Focus.

To the side of the church, a soul watched her body being buried. Michael rested his hand on her shoulder.

“Come, there is nothing for you here.”

“Not so fast.”

The angel sneered as the valkyrie landed.

“You’ve been chosen to be a daughter of Asgard.”

“Wait? You mean the myths are true?”

Pegasus snorted and nudged the spirit’s outstretched hand.

“Does Thor really look like Chris Hemsworth?”

“Honey, they all look like Chris in Valhalla.”

Sold.

Note:
This week’s story is inspired by Norse mythology’s valkyries (maiden spirits who collect souls and delivers the chosen to Odin’s hall Valhalla, located in Asgard
). Chris Hemsworth plays the Norse god, Thor, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and should need no introduction…

  1. I like this one a lot, T. The concept of different afterlives competing for souls is brilliant. Are we talking the Thor movie Chris Hemsworth? Or Endgame Chris Hemsworth, which was probably a fat suit?
